Assessment Pathways
Each pathway begins with a free 30‑minute consultation. But if this doesn’t work for you then WhatsApp or email and we can work out what will.
This is a chance to talk through your concerns, understand what you’re looking for, and decide together which assessment pathway is the best fit for your child or young person. There is no obligation to proceed.
Below is an outline of what to expect from each pathway. It is important to remember that not every assessment will lead to a diagnosis of ASD or ADHD. Where a child does not meet the diagnostic criteria you will be given a formulation of your child’s areas of strength and difficulty and a full report explaining how they can be supported.
ASD Assessment Pathway
1. Free 30‑minute consultation
A relaxed conversation to understand your child’s strengths and difficulties, explain the assessment process, and confirm whether an ASD assessment is appropriate.
2. Information gathering
You will be invited to share any relevant background information, such as:
school reports
previous assessments (SALT, OT, EP)
medical letters
EHCP or SEN support documentation
examples of communication or behaviour
You will also receive a structured questionnaire to complete.
Depending on the information provided, with permission I may contact your child’s school to gather additional context about their communication, learning, social interaction and day‑to‑day functioning. This helps ensure the assessment reflects your child’s experiences across settings.
3. ADI‑R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised)
A detailed developmental history exploring communication, social interaction, play and behaviour.
Face‑to‑face is mandatory unless your child will require a face‑to‑face SALT assessment through this pathway.
If a SALT assessment is needed, the ADI‑R can be completed either online or face-to-face.
4. Speech and Language Therapy assessment (if required)
If there are concerns about language, communication or social communication skills, a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist will complete a structured assessment. This is usually face‑to‑face.
5. Case formulation
All information is reviewed together: questionnaires, ADI‑R, SALT findings, school information and developmental history, to reach a clear, evidence‑based conclusion.
6. Feedback appointment
Parents and the child/young person (if appropriate) are invited to a feedback session, either face‑to‑face or online. You will receive:
a clear explanation of the outcome
a detailed written report
practical recommendations for home and school
signposting to further support if needed
ADHD Assessment Pathway
1. Free 30‑minute consultation
A chance to explore your concerns, explain the ADHD pathway, and confirm whether an assessment is appropriate.
2. Information gathering
You will be asked to share relevant background information, including school reports, previous assessments and any medical or SEN documentation. You will also complete structured questionnaires.
Depending on the information provided, I may contact your child’s school to gather additional insight into attention, activity levels, executive functioning and classroom behaviour.
3. QbCheck (objective attention and activity assessment)
You will receive a link to complete a QbCheck online at home. This provides objective data on attention, impulsivity and activity levels, which complements the clinical assessment.
4. Face‑to‑face appointment with DIVA assessment
You will attend a face‑to‑face appointment where:
a DIVA (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD) is completed
developmental history and current functioning are explored
QbCheck results are reviewed
school information is considered
5. Feedback and next steps
Feedback is provided at the end of the appointment, including:
whether ADHD criteria are met
a clear explanation of the formulation
a written report
recommendations for home and school
discussion of treatment options (including medication pathways if appropriate)
Every family is different. My aim is to make the assessment process as accessible and comfortable as possible. During the free 30‑minute initial appointment, we can discuss your preferences for online or face‑to‑face appointments, and agree together which elements are best completed in each format. We can also be flexible about venues for the face‑to‑face components where appropriate.
If your child would benefit from both ASD and ADHD assessments, these can be combined into a single, streamlined pathway to reduce duplication and make the process easier for you and your child.
